Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Respond promptly: Notify the editor immediately if unable to undertake the review or if a potential conflict of interest exists that may compromise impartiality.
  • Maintain confidentiality: Treat all manuscript-related information as strictly confidential and do not disclose or use it for personal benefit.
  • Provide objective assessment: Evaluate the manuscript fairly, offering constructive and evidence-based feedback that enhances the quality of the work.
  • Adhere to timelines: Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe to facilitate timely editorial decisions and publication.

Role of the Reviewer

  • Highlight strengths and contributions of the work.
  • Identify weaknesses, methodological flaws, or interpretive gaps that may affect validity.
  • Suggest practical and clear recommendations to help authors improve their manuscripts.

Confidentiality and Anonymity

While authors receive the feedback provided by reviewers, reviewer identities remain confidential throughout the process. Reviewers should therefore ensure that all feedback is professional, respectful, and unbiased.

Key Areas to Evaluate

Research Questions and Relevance

Is the primary research question or objective clearly defined and significant to the field? Does the study address a relevant and meaningful issue?

Originality and Contribution

How original is the topic, methodology, or perspective? What does the work contribute to the existing body of literature?

Clarity and Writing Quality

Is the manuscript well-structured, coherent, and logically written? Is the language clear, precise, and accessible to the intended audience?

Conclusions and Evidence

Are the conclusions supported by the data and analysis? Do they adequately address the stated research questions?

Context and Scholarly Debate

Does the manuscript engage with current academic debates or challenge existing consensus? If so, is the case well-argued and supported by evidence?

Figures, Tables, and Illustrations

Do visual elements (tables, figures, graphs) support and enhance the text? Are they clear, accurate, and appropriately used?
